Purple Pondering

Rainbow bar

Have you ever played the road-trip game where you find an object that begins with A, then B, then C, etc?  Or how about the one where you just find the letters of the alphabet in road signs or license plates?  This morning, for some reason I found myself playing a similar game, only with the colors of the rainbow.  Mind you, this was at 5:30 in the a.m., on my way to work, and all by myself.  Possibly I hadn’t had enough coffee or too much coffee, or maybe I was so happy that it was Friday, I just saw rainbows everywhere, but I was able to go through the colors four and a half times in 35 miles.

Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple…

Did you know that purple is the hardest color to find?  Other than one fantastic purple trailer truck, the other purple objects were flowers.  That leads to the question of why? Is purple too feminine? too soft? too closely related to pink?  It used to be the color of royalty.  I know that pink really became feminized in the US in the 50s.  What about purple?  Maybe it is related to the area I live in; surrounded by farming and lumber mills.  Something to ponder.

You need to go drive around in the St John Valley. Many pink and purple houses up there… :)

Very true! I suppose I didn’t drive far enough north. I do love the Valley. It is so beautiful up there and they certainly aren’t afraid of color.

    Cheers!
